"No Kings".....a campaign against a nonexistent threat, managed by corporate America to make sure there is no real challenge to the bi-partisan financial ruling class, by sucking up energy which might be available to a real populist challenge.......
"Diversity" in such an event is almost a laughable third tier non-issue.......
Challenging the status quo is what we march for at No Kings. It gives hope to those who thought they were alone, give a spine to politicians and motivates folks to the polls. Voting is our superpower and the lifeblood of our democracy.
Most people don’t know that the last successful populist “uprising” to challenge the status quo was launched in the mid-19th century by black farmers in east Texas. The Farmer’s Alliance led to the establishment of the Populist Party; most of the state election laws that make having a viable third election option almost impossible were passed to prevent anything like it from being established again.
My take is after Harris wasn't elected a lot of African Americans are just tired. Seeing what type of person the voters went for and seeing what we have to deal with in battling racism in activist circles some folks might just want to sit some of these out.
Black activists will get reenergized again. Right now I would happily show up for anything black folks or people of color are doing as best I can. Black women are feeling even more tired right now.
If anyone would be arrested at a protest, it would be people of color. Our Black brothers and sisters have marched for decades and made some progress. We are indebted to them for those hard won freedoms. That's why mostly white people march instead of them, and we march for protecting everyone's freedom and our democracy.
Oakland had diversity!! All kinds of folks! Next time I take jpgs.
