Labor Politics is a newsletter about how working people build power, at work and through electoral politics, with a focus on today, but an eye to lessons of the past. It mostly publishes my own work, but also periodically publishes submissions from others that share a similar analytical-strategic spirit.
A bit about me: I’m an assistant professor of labor studies at Rutgers, and I’ve been involved in labor and socialist organizing for over two decades now. I helped co-found the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee, the Worker-to-Worker Collaborative, Schools Drop ICE, and Salting the Just Transition — a new pipeline to get young people into strategic jobs for workplace organizing. Proud to be a member of AAUP-AFT and NYC-DSA.
I’m currently working on a new book about how big business atomized America and how we can revive community. It explores how capital’s exceptional influence over our country has been dissolving social bonds since the 1890s, and how our best model for rebuilding community comes from a surprising place: nondenominational evangelical Christians. My previous books include We Are the Union: How Worker-to-Worker Organizing Is Revitalizing Labor and Winning Big (2025) and Red State Revolt: The Teachers’ Strike Wave and Working-Class Politics (2019).
